Augill Castle: A very English castle

Where Yorkshire meets the Lake District

Yorkshire Dales & Lake District castle accommodation

'Unlike anywhere you have ever stayed before'

Not just a place to stay: A slice of genuine, quietly groovy, mildly eccentric English country house living.

"Picture a traditional castle with its Victorian Gothic towers, huge windows and original staircases, you've pretty much got Augill Castle. Standing right on the cusp of Yorkshire and the Lake District, hardly better placed for exploring the English countryside. You couldn’t find more hospitable owners: they welcome you into the castle as if you’ve lived there all your life – you’ll find a warming decanter of sherry in each bedroom, and plenty of good hearty dishes on the menu."

- Red Online, March 2012

Augill Castle between the Lake District & Yorkshire Dales is neither a conventional hotel nor simply a B&B and, above all else, not a place for taking yourself, us or life too seriously.

We run the castle, our family home, in a modern and informal style with relaxed family friendly service, award winning guest accommodation, honest food and a genuine desire to create a comfortable place to unwind.

There is always a divine bed, top quality linen, great shower above a deep bath and a top quality breakfast. We add dinner or supper as an option as often as we can.

The castle, modelled on nearby Lowther Castle, sits between Kirkby Stephen and Appleby in the Eden Valley where the Yorkshire Dales roll down in to Cumbria towards the Lake District.

Anything goes at Augill except hushed tones and false formality.

English Bed & Breakfast of the Year, Favourite British hotel, Best Castle Hotel in England, top Cumbria bed & breakfast, Family Friendly hotel of the Year?

Whichever it is, Augill Castle defies description.
